David Herman Jr. is a graduate of Florida A&M University’s school of Journalism, Media & Graphic Arts with a Bachelor of Science degree in Print Management. He worked five years in production management at Dow Jones Company, Inc. where he was responsible for logistics and quality control of The Wall Street Journal. He is a South Carolina native and life-long photographer who has spent the last six years nurturing Preservation LINK, Inc., providing opportunities to both rural South Carolina and Dallas inner-city children to explore possibilities within themselves and the world around them using the medium of photography. He and his agency have worked in partnership with Big Thought, conducting photojournalism workshop for school aged children. Since 2002, David has spent a portion of his summer providing a video production workshop to high school students participating in the “Summer Arts at the Center” program at the South Dallas Cultural Center. He trains them to produce documentaries that give a voice to their community. Preservation LINK, Inc. began in South Carolina and has since become an important arts program within Dallas Independent School District Area 2 in the South Dallas/Fair Park area. David has shared his visual works with such production companies as Rainforest Films –Atlanta, Georgia as well as a number of advertising agencies and research journals. He continues his work on his traveling exhibit entitled: ETCHED IN THE EYES…The Spirit of a People Called Gullah, an ongoing project designed to collect documentation of the African Diaspora along the eastern coastline of South Carolina and Georgia.
Born in South Carolina, Shaun is currently a Ph.D. candidate in University of Pennsylvania’s School of Education. Shaun attended Morgan State University in Baltimore MD - graduating with a B.S. in Psychology and most recently a M.S. Ed. in Human Development from the University of Pennsylvania. Shaun has participated in a number of projects to illustrate the varied experiences of ethnic minorities, including an exploration of rap lyrics and African American young adults, school composition and middle school bullying, and social support and religion among chronically ill females. Through her experience as tutor, volunteer, teacher assistant, and researcher, Shaun has developed a deep commitment to engaging in research that empowers adolescents and their families. Thus, her primary goals include using research from programs like Point of View and Sight & Sound to help demonstrate how various media, community elements, and other factors influence identity expression and mental health among African American children and their families.
Tunde J. Olaofe is a Business Logistics Analyst that has worked for over 10 years with Fortune 100 and 500 companies as an Independent Consultant overseeing Business re-engineering and large-scale software implementation projects. He is currently employed as a Principal Systems Analyst by a major pharmaceutical company in Atlanta where his focus involves helping with the re-organization and optimization of the company’s North America network operations in the area of Distribution and Transportation. Tunde has a graduate degree from City University, London in Business, Systems Analysis and Design. James is a health and fitness enthusiast with keen interests in: African American History, Philosophy, Community Outreach Projects and Negro Spirituals.
Teresa Love works with outreach programs for the State of Texas and the Dallas County Community College District concentrating on improving access to higher education. She also works as an independent marketing consultant and owns her own candle business. Ms. Love was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia and now lives in Richardson, Texas. She attended Florida A&M University and holds a masters degree in business. Her professional experience includes management, marketing and promotional design. Ms. Love is fiercely committed to public service. She consistently volunteers her time and professional services to non-profit organizations and is an active life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Ms. Love strongly believes that positive role models can make the difference in the lives of children.
Nakia Douglas is the Principal of Maynard H. Jackson Middle School in Dallas, Texas. Nakia has had the opportunity to work in education for ten years as a Teacher (Kindergarten, First and Fourth), Assistant Principal and Principal. His experiences have allowed him to work in Winston – Salem, North Carolina, Pflugerville, Georgetown and his hometown, Dallas, Texas. Nakia attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. graduating with a B. S. in Elementary education, received his M.S. Ed. in Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University and his Administrative Certification from Region XIII Education Service Center. Nakia is very conscious of his role within his community where he has been able to grow from a student within the area schools to a teacher and campus administrator.
